Play Therapist in Training
My Story
Isaac Lopez has his bachelor’s degree in general psychology and is pursuing a master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling from Truett McConnell University with the hope of pursuing his Professional License after graduation in June of 2023. His interests in therapy include play-therapy, Adlerian, and gestalt, person-centered approaches.
Isaac does not zero-in on any approach to therapy but believes in creating a safe-place and a calming, empathetic, environment for clients to explore their inner world. Isaac believes deeply in rapport building with clients and believes that issues cannot healed without a strong bond of trust between clinician and client. These ideas are deeply rooted in the work of Carl Rogers and the principle of unconditional positive regard. Isaac uses a mixture of approaches and tailors the therapeutic experience the specific needs of his clientele. The foundation of Isaac’s counseling is rooted in a psychology of hope. Isaac primarily works with male clients between the ages of 8-18, but is working towards counseling younger clients focusing on play-therapy. Isaac is currently being supervised by Dr. Amanda Slaughter.
