Courtney Lozano Counseling Intern
Courtney is a counseling intern at Family Counseling Associates of North Georgia. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Psychology, with a minor in Spanish, and a certificate in Applied Theatre for Health, from the University of Florida. She is currently pursuing her Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with a specialization in Drama Therapy through Lesley University. Drama Therapy is an embodied approach that uses creative expression and role-play to help people explore emotions, develop insight, and work toward healing.
Courtney takes a compassionate, collaborative, and culturally responsive approach to counseling, considering both the individual and the broader cultural and systemic influences that shape clients’ experiences. She believes that clients already hold the wisdom they need and sees her role as providing a safe, supportive space to help them uncover those answers.
Her professional background includes interning as a drama therapist in training in a Head Start preschool setting, teaching in public middle and high schools in Florida and Georgia, and working with children and adolescents who have experienced trauma. She also brings a unique perspective from her time as a foster parent, which deepened her understanding of resilience, attachment, and the impact of systemic factors on individual and family well-being.
Fluent in the Spanish language, Courtney is dedicated to making therapy inclusive and accessible for clients. She draws on drama therapeutic techniques and other evidence-based practices to help clients express themselves, regulate emotions, build meaningful connections, and experience joy.
Courtney is under the professional supervision of Dr. Amanda Slaughter Ed.D, LPC, RPT-S, CPCS.
