Ilene Thompson, MS
Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling

About Me

Ilene Thompson is a paid intern at FCANG with a strong foundation in clinical mental health counseling and a passion for supporting individuals through life’s challenges. Born and raised in the Bronx, New York, Ilene brings a culturally aware and grounded perspective to her work with clients. She earned her Bachelor of Science from SUNY Fredonia and her Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Mercer University.

Ilene’s decision to pursue counseling is rooted in her desire to help others build resilience, develop coping skills, and feel empowered in their personal growth. She primarily uses Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients shift unhelpful thoughts and behaviors. Her approach is collaborative, supportive, and tailored to meet each client where they are, with a focus on fostering self-awareness, confidence, and long-term well-being.

Ilene has experience working with individuals facing anxiety, depression, stress, self-esteem concerns, and life transitions. She is committed to creating a safe, nonjudgmental environment where clients feel heard, respected, and encouraged to explore their experiences openly. Her work reflects a belief that healing is possible through intentional effort, insight, and supportive therapeutic relationships.

Outside of her professional work, Ilene enjoys cooking, playing video games, and exercising, which help her maintain balance and bring creativity and energy into her daily life and clinical practice. Ilene is under the supervision of Dr. Amanda Slaughter Ed.D, LPC, RPT-S, CPCS
