Debbi Sohn
Counseling Intern
My name is Debbi Sohn. I graduated from the University of Georgia in 2019 with a degree in Biology and am currently pursuing my M.A. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Richmont Graduate University. I am excited to complete my internship at Family Counseling Associates of North Georgia and honored to learn and grow as a future counselor under the supervision of Dr. Amanda Slaughter Ed.D, LPC, RPT-S, CPCS.
I have a strong passion for working with children, adolescents, and families—especially those impacted by stress, trauma, and relational conflict. I am particularly interested in training in play therapy, believing deeply in its ability to help young people express themselves and heal in safe, developmentally appropriate ways.
My desire to become a counselor stems from both my mental health journey and my experience working with children. Today’s youth face immense pressure—from academic demands and social challenges to family disruptions and identity struggles. But I believe, as Jesus said, that “the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.” I feel called by the Holy Spirit to walk alongside these young ones with compassion and hope.
I believe healing does not come through quick fixes but through presence—sitting with someone in their suffering and gently walking with them into the hard, hidden parts of their story. As counselors, we are invited into the sacred task of exploring the shared human experience of suffering, recognizing that we are all in need of grace and healing. I hope to create a space where clients feel safe to explore both the darkness and light within themselves, trusting that, through the journey, restoration, and transformation are possible.
